Mynydd Illtud is an extensive area of common land a few minutes walk from Pentre Naboth. Just head out of the drive and turn left; you can’t miss it!
There is no one particular route round the common; it is best to just wander through and enjoy – although veer south (towards Pen-y-Fan) if you fancy stopping at the mountain centre There are lots of walks that head away from the common if you fancy getting adventurous.
There are a series of standing stones worth a glance as you pass, including Standing Stone 1, and Llanilltyd church is worth a look; Bedd Gwyl Illtyd is an interesting feature to see if you can locate(!), and the trig point on Twyn y Gaer has amazing views North, and more to explore. Most impressively are the views towards Pen-y-Fan, which are without doubt the best you’ll get.
And should you feel a bit parched and in need of a sit down, or in need of more information, or if you notice lots of cars driving through, the Brecon Beacons National Park Visitors Centre is situated on the southern edge of the common, and they serve up information, food, drinks, and events throughout the year.
